Obituary for Norwood Amos

Norwood Robert Amos was born August 10, 1941 in Washington, Missouri; son of the late Argus Amos and his wife, Olivia Wellenkamp Amos. He passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 in New Haven, Missouri at the age of 75 years.
Norwood received his education at the St. Francis Borgia Grade School and graduated from the St. Francis Borgia High School in 1959. On June 20, 1964, Norwood was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Kuenzel at the St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington and they made their home in Washington. Norwood was employed as a machinist at Sporlan Valve Company in Washington and retired in 2003 after 44 years. He also worked with his father, Argus as part of the Amos and son Auction Service. After his father retired, Norwood continued running Amos Auction Service until he retired from auctioneering after 40 years. In 1992, he proudly obtained his funeral directors license and was employed at Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home and for the last years of his life at the Oltmann Funeral Home. Norwood and Mary split their time after retirement between Washington and North Port, FL. Norwood was an active volunteer in the Washington area communities. He was a member of the St. Francis Borgia church, a past member of the Autumn Hill State School PTA, former volunteer fireman with the Washington Fire Department. He also volunteered his auction services at the SFB Grade School and High School fundraising auctions for many years. During his years spent in Florida, he joined the Moose Lodge #764. He also learned to play Bocce Ball and enjoyed playing in tournaments and teaching others how to play. Norwood and Mary also spent much time at their at Lake of the Ozarks boating, fishing, and relaxing.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Cynthia Marie on May 9, 1966 and Shelly Jo Amos on October 9, 1979; his mother and father-in-law, Tony and Mary Kuenzel and one brother-in-law, Glenn Kuenzel.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Amos of Washington; three sisters, Lucine Lakebrink and husband, Michael of Hot Springs Village, AR, Carol Pecaut and husband, Dale of Houston, TX and Mary Leeker and husband, Norman of Washington; special family friends, Bill and Carol Monroe and their children, Jamie and Jeffrey of Washington; seven brothers-in-law, Tony Kuenzel and wife, Renee of New Haven, MO, Jerry Kuenzel and wife, Donna of Washington, Mike Kuenzel and wife, Mary Lou of Washington, Roland Kuenzel and wife, Susan of Ste. Genevieve, MO, Keith Kuenzel and wife, Connie of Washington, John Kuenzel of Springfield, MO, and Tim Kuenzel and wife, Stephanie of Ste. Genevieve, MO; one sister-in-law, Kathy Kuenzel of Columbia, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington with Rev. Joe Wormek officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery in Washington. Memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital or SFB Church. The Amos family was served by the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington.
