Obituary for Richard "Dick" Henry Schwane

Richard Henry “Dick” Schwane was born January 24, 1939 in O’Fallon, Missouri; son of the late Joseph Schwane and wife, Paula Heggemann Schwane. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 as he was surrounded by his family.
Dick grew up in Concord Hill and attended St. Ignatius of Loyola School. He left school early to help his family on the farm. He was taught at a young age to be a good worker. He also developed a love for tractors. Eventually, he went to work for Sellenriek Grading where for 40 years he built golf courses, lakes, ponds, and roads all over the greater Mid-Missouri area. He had incredible skill and knew how to build a challenging course, even though he did not play golf. Several golf course developers gave him great latitude on developing the fairways and bunkers for he had a great reputation for know how to make the most of the land. He loved to take family and friends for drives pointing out the landscape and how he helped shape it. He loved to talk and was never short on a story.
He was an amazing Opa and his 22 grandchildren always looked forward to the tractor rideshe loved to give. It was the highlight of many visits. He also loved to travel, fish, and hunt.
He was a man of faith and always willing to lend a helping hand. He set an example for his children and grandchildren. He served St. Francis Borgia Parish and School in many capacities, always willing to help with the Chicken frying, serving meals, and other parish activities.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Riegel Schwane, his sister, Arlene Schwane, and brothers, Vernon Schwane and Charles Schwane. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marianne of Washington; his daughters, Lisa Madenjian and husband, Ed of Lake Jackson, TX, Kim Schwane of Dallas, TX, Gina Vanek of Washington, and Mimi Dolan and husband, Lee of Golden, CO; his sons, John Post and wife, Rosanne of Highland Ranch, CO, Joe Post and wife, Kim of Charlotte, NC, Mark Post and wife, Loren of Dallas, TX, Bob Post of Washington, and Charles Post of Washington; 22 grandchildren, one sister, Bertha Jasper and husband, Ron of Gerald, MO; other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington. Burial in the church cemetery. Memorials requested to St. Francis Borgia Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family was served by the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Arbors at Victorian Place for caring for Dick this past year. The love and kindness they extended to him and the family is deeply appreciated and treasured.
